Are lab-grown diamonds “real” diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and physically real diamonds—unlike cubic zirconia or moissanite. The key differences between lab-grown and natural diamonds are origin (grown in a lab vs. mined) and price.

Are lab-grown or natural diamonds better?

It all depends on your values—tradition and scarcity, or ethics and price. Lab-grown diamonds are on the rise as consumers prioritize affordability, traceability, and sustainability.

What is “IGI Certified”?

IGI (International Gemological Institute) is the world’s largest and most respected certifier of lab-grown diamonds. Every diamond purchased through Diamond First will come with a trifold IGI report detailing your diamond’s unique identification number and official diamond grading (the 4Cs).

How can I verify my certificate?

You can verify all IGI reports online at IGI.Org using the“Verify Your Report” tool by entering the Diamond’s IGI number and viewing your diamond in the IGI database.

How can I verify my diamond?

All IGI-graded diamonds have the IGI number laser-inscribed on the diamond’s girdle (the thin outer edge). A jeweler can view the inscription under magnification and match it to the certificate.

Is there a cost to get my diamond verified by a jeweler?

No, nearly all jewelry stores will inspect and verify a diamond free of charge.

Will a Jeweler Set a Diamond I Didn’t Buy from Them?

In most cases, yes—many jewelers are willing to set diamonds purchased elsewhere. Some jewelers may charge a setting fee when you purchase a ring from them. Others will allow you to have your diamond set in the ring you purchase from them at no additional cost. To avoid surprises, it’s always best to call the jewelry store ahead and ask.

Why only VVS2, Color-E diamonds?

By choosing VVS2 clarity and Color E, customers achieve top-tier beauty and performance. Higher grades in clarity and color are scarce and drive up a diamond's price, but do not produce a noticeable difference in appearance.

Visually Flawless Clarity (VVS2)

Both VVS1 and VVS2 diamonds contain very, very slight inclusions that are extremely difficult to detect even under 10× magnification. To the naked eye, they appear flawless. There is no visible difference in brilliance or clarity between VVS1 and VVS2—only a difference in price.

Truly Colorless (Color E)

Color D is the highest possible color grade and classified as completely colorless. However, Color E is also considered colorless and is visually indistinguishable from Color D in real-world viewing. The sparkle, fire, and brightness remain the same—without the premium attached to the rarest grade.

Can lab-grown diamonds be appraised and insured?

Yes, a professional jeweler can appraise your diamond, and that appraisal value is commonly used to secure insurance coverage. In jewelry insurance providers allow you to insure your diamond using the diamond’s IGI certification number without requiring a full in-person appraisal.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Orders can arrive within 3 business days via USPS Priority Mail. Your order tracking number will be provided upon purchase.  Delivery times are not guaranteed and may be affected by carrier delays, weather, or holidays.

What’s your return policy?

We offer a 10-day return period starting from the date your order is marked delivered. To receive a full refund, the diamond must be returned within the return period with its undamaged certificate of authenticity. Once received, we will inspect the diamond to confirm it has not been altered, replaced, or tampered with. After approval, your refund will be issued. Please allow up to 7 business days for processing, though timing may vary depending on your financial institution. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs.
